A Bayelsa State High Court sitting in Yenagoa has dismissed a lawsuit filed by state chairmen loyal to Julius Abure, challenging their dissolution by the Labour Party’s national leadership under Nenadi Esther Usman. The court ruled that the application lacked merit and jurisdiction, dealing a blow to Abure’s faction.
The judgment is a significant victory for the Labour Party’s current leadership, following the Supreme Court’s April 2025 ruling that removed Abure from office. The court has validated the decisions taken by the Nenadi Usman-led leadership, including the dissolution of state chairmen perceived to be loyal to Abure.
This ruling strengthens the party’s position and paves the way for resolving internal conflicts. With legal avenues to contest the leadership changes narrowing, the Labour Party appears to be edging closer to stability.
