The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has inaugurated its Logistics Committee for the 2027 general elections.

The inauguration was held on Thursday, October 15, 2026, at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, who inaugurated the committee, said the move is part of early preparations to strengthen election logistics and prevent late arrival of materials at polling units.

Amupitan said the credibility of the polls would depend largely on timely delivery of materials, stressing that no eligible voter should be disenfranchised because materials arrived late.

The multi-agency committee is chaired by National Commissioner, retired Rear Admiral Jamila Abubakar-Sadiq, who oversees security matters at the Commission.

According to the INEC Chairman, the committee will coordinate the transportation of sensitive and non-sensitive election materials by road, air and waterways, assess logistical requirements, develop plans for storage and distribution, and audit the readiness of warehouses, vehicles, airports, seaports and other facilities.

Its responsibilities also include identifying logistical gaps, addressing transportation bottlenecks, monitoring compliance with deployment schedules, and developing strategies to mitigate security threats.

Amupitan noted that Nigeria’s diverse geography, from the creeks of the Niger Delta to difficult terrain in the north, demands a flexible and resilient logistics plan.

In her remarks, Abubakar-Sadiq said the committee would develop a strategic logistics plan based on lessons from previous elections and recommend practical solutions to ensure smooth deployment of materials nationwide.

The committee comprises key stakeholders from the transport and security sectors, including the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria, RTEAN, Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, the Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Air Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, and other paramilitary agencies.

After the inauguration, the leadership of the Commission held its inaugural strategic meeting with members of the committee to fine-tune operational blueprints for the 2027 polls.

The inauguration marks a major administrative milestone as INEC accelerates its operational and technical readiness ahead of the 2027 general elections.
