Residents of Obadore axis around Igando in Lagos State have cried out to Ikeja Electric over persistent blackout and poor power supply to the area, despite owning prepaid meters.
The aggrieved residents took to social media on Monday to call out the distribution company, lamenting that the area has been thrown into darkness for days, making life unbearable due to intense heat and inability to power homes and businesses.
In a message directed at the DisCo, a resident wrote: *”@IkejaElectric please help our situation and give us light in Obadore axis around Igando. Most people are now patronising solar system despite the prepaid meter. There is so much heat and so many other things to do with electricity.”*
The residents said the situation has become frustrating as many households paid for prepaid meters but still do not get value for money, forcing many to seek alternative power sources like solar systems and generators at extra cost.
According to them, small businesses that depend on electricity – including barbers, welders, cold room operators and cybercafes – are counting losses, while families battle heat and sleepless nights.
They accused Ikeja Electric of neglecting the Obadore-Igando feeder while other areas enjoy stable power supply, calling on the management of the company and the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) to intervene urgently.
“How can we have prepaid meters and still be in darkness? We recharge but no light. People are now abandoning NEPA for solar because of Ikeja Electric’s failure. The heat in Igando now is too much,” another resident complained.
As at the time of filing this report, Ikeja Electric @IkejaElectric has not responded to the complaint nor issued a statement on the cause of the outage in Obadore.
Residents are demanding immediate restoration of power to the axis and a clear explanation for the prolonged blackout.
