The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has dismissed claims that the country is on the brink of collapse, saying it remains stable and fully operational.
Idris emphasized Nigeria’s crucial role in West Africa’s peace and stability, citing its leadership in promoting democracy and regional integration.
Speaking at the Voice of Nigeria (VON) Forum 2026, Idris highlighted the country’s progress in security and economic reforms. He noted that the 2026 budget allocates N5.41 trillion to security, the highest sectoral allocation, which has led to the neutralization of terror commanders and rescue of kidnapped victims.
Idris also downplayed a recent US security advisory, describing it as a routine precaution that doesn’t reflect Nigeria’s overall security situation. He assured international partners that public institutions remain operational, with no disruption to governance or daily life.
