…Partnership to modernise driver training, boost ICT learning and produce globally competitive professionals

The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, and the Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology, NITT, Zaria, on Tuesday signed a far-reaching Memorandum of Understanding to advance training, research, and capacity development in Nigeria’s transport sector.

The agreement was signed by FRSC Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, and NITT Director General, Dr. Bayero Farah. Both institutions described it as a landmark step toward raising professional standards and positioning Nigeria’s transport system for global competitiveness.

Speaking at the ceremony, Corps Marshal Mohammed said the partnership represents a bold commitment to a safer, smarter, and more efficient transportation system.

He noted that the MoU will deepen collaboration in specialised training, research, technology adoption, driver training, knowledge exchange, and human capital development.

“FRSC’s longstanding collaboration with NITT has already yielded remarkable results, but the formalisation of the relationship through the MoU opens an entirely new chapter of innovation and institutional excellence,” he said.

Mohammed added that the pact will strengthen research capabilities, modernise driver training centres, expand ICT-driven learning, and produce transport professionals equipped to tackle emerging mobility and road safety challenges.

He stressed that the agreement is not ceremonial but an actionable framework for immediate implementation to accelerate reforms across the sector.

In his remarks, Dr. Farah commended FRSC for its vision and commitment during negotiations, saying the Corps’ dedication was key to concluding the deal.

He said the core objective of the MoU is to align Nigeria’s transport education, professional training, and research with global best practices in order to build world-class manpower for sustainable national development.

The event was witnessed by key stakeholders, including AAI Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Ahmed Abdelhafaz, and AAI Chairman, Mr. Ejike Njeze, underscoring the strategic importance of the collaboration and growing confidence in Nigeria’s transport reform agenda.
