Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has slammed the Federal Government for failing to pay resident doctors’ Professional Allowance arrears, calling it “betrayal”.
In a statement via his verified X handle, Atiku said the government signed a deal but is now abandoning it, despite 19 months of unpaid arrears.
He urged the Tinubu administration to honour its commitments, including promotion arrears and the Medical Residency Training Fund.
He emphasized that doctors are fleeing the country due to poor conditions, and it’s a failure of leadership. “You cannot ask people to serve a nation that refuses to honour its own word,” he said, backing NARD’s demands.
