Egbin Power Plc Champions Youth and Community Development Through Sports

    Egbin Power Plc, Nigeria’s leading power generation company, is reinforcing its commitment to fostering youth and community development by providing a platform for showcasing talent and enhancing unity among community members.

    The company recently organized the 2nd edition of the Egbin Power Plc Community Football tournament, underscoring its dedication to promoting sports development in the host communities of Egbin, Ijede, and Ipakan.

    During the finals held at the Ipakan Community Stadium in Ikorodu, Felix Ofulue, the Head of Corporate Communication & Branding, emphasized the tournament’s role in engaging the youth positively, advancing sports development, and nurturing camaraderie within the host communities.

    Ofulue stated, “At Egbin Power Plc, we are dedicated to advancing youth and community development in our host communities. The impressive turnout of spectators, the quality of talents showcased, and the cooperation among the young participants reflect the success of this year’s competition.”

    He continued, “The tournament provided an avenue for bonding and skill showcase. We are thrilled with its success and congratulate the winners and all participating teams for their sportsmanship, making the competition vibrant. We believe in the potential of the youths in these communities and are delighted to provide this platform for them to thrive.”

    Nigeria’s ex-international goalkeeper, Peter Rufai, lauded Egbin Power Plc for initiating the competition, recognizing it as a commendable effort to promote youth and sports development in the country.

    Rufai expressed, “This program by Egbin Power Plc is laudable. I am deeply honored to be part of this initiative aimed at promoting youth and sport development in Nigeria. I commend the company and urge them to keep it up, as it offers bright hope for the talents we have seen in the competition.”

    In the final match, Alagura Football Club (FC) clinched the 2023 edition by defeating Igbopa FC 2-0, with Sterling Boys Ipakan securing the 3rd position after a thrilling encounter with Oke-Eletu FC, ending 6-2. The champions received a cash prize of N1,000,000, while the 2nd and 3rd positions received N700,000 and N500,000, respectively.

    The Baale of Ipakan, Chief Mustapha Lasisi, expressed gratitude to the power generation company for contributing to youth and sports development in the host communities. He said, “Through this second edition, the company has demonstrated its interest in promoting unity, growth, and development of our communities.”

    The finals drew the presence of royal fathers from the host communities, with thousands of spectators cheering for the teams. Sixteen football clubs from various towns in the host communities participated in the 2023 edition, showcasing the vibrancy and diversity of talent in the region.
