The Governor of Ebonyi State yesterday swore in the newly elected Chairmen and Vice Chairmen of the state’s 13 Local Government Areas, describing their assumption of office as a renewed commitment to bring development and democracy dividends closer to the people.

The swearing-in ceremony was held at the Christian Ecumenical Centre, Abakaliki.
Addressing the new council leaders, the Governor charged them to see their positions “not merely as privileges, but as a sacrifice and a call to serve.”

“They have sworn to uphold the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, serve their people diligently and protect the interests of the people of Ebonyi State,” he said.
The Governor directed the new Chairmen to faithfully implement the programmes and policies of his administration and the manifesto of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
He also urged them to work collaboratively with all stakeholders to advance development in their respective LGAs.
To the Vice Chairmen, he stressed the need for support, cooperation and respect for their offices.
“There must be unity of purpose and teamwork in delivering on the mandate entrusted to them by our people,” he said.
*Call for integrity and discipline*
“Our people deserve effective leadership at every level. I therefore urge the new Council Chairmen and Vice Chairmen to justify the confidence reposed in them by serving with integrity, humility, discipline and commitment,” the Governor added.
He concluded that the journey to deeper grassroots development continues, pledging that “together, we will build an even greater Ebonyi State.”
The inauguration of the 13 LG executives is expected to kickstart a new phase of projects and service delivery at the local government level across the state.
