Chelsea Football Club has today confirmed the departure of Head Coach Liam Rosenior with immediate effect.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the club placed on record its gratitude to Rosenior and his staff for their efforts during their time at Stamford Bridge.
“On behalf of everyone at Chelsea FC, we would like to place on record our gratitude to Liam and his staff for all their efforts during their time with the Club,” the statement read.
The club acknowledged Rosenior’s professionalism since his appointment midway through the season, noting that he “has always conducted himself with the highest integrity and professionalism.”
However, Chelsea said the decision was taken after careful consideration, with recent results and performances falling below the standards expected. “This has not been a decision the Club has taken lightly, however recent results and performances have fallen below the necessary standards with still so much more to play for this season,” the club stated.
Calum McFarlane will now take charge of the first team as Interim Head Coach until the end of the season. He will be supported by existing backroom staff as the Blues continue their push for European qualification and progress in the FA Cup.
Chelsea added that work is underway to bring stability to the Head Coach position. “As the Club works to bring stability to the Head Coach position, we will undertake a process of self-reflection to make the right long-term appointment,” the statement said.
The club closed by wishing Rosenior well in his future endeavors: “Everyone at Chelsea FC wishes Liam every success in the future.”
Rosenior’s exit comes with Chelsea still in contention for a European place and with an FA Cup campaign ongoing. McFarlane’s first assignment as Interim Head Coach is expected to be confirmed ahead of the club’s next fixture.
