In a statement, Presidential candidate, Peter Obi, condemned the attacks, saying they serve as a painful reminder of the government’s failure to protect lives and property. He lamented the normalization of insecurity in the country, citing recent attacks in Kwara, Nasarawa, Kogi, Plateau, Sokoto, Benue, and the Federal Capital Territory.
Reports of communities being coerced into paying a “Peace Tax” to armed groups in Katsina have added to the growing concern over the nation’s security architecture. Obi called for immediate action, urging leaders to prioritize safeguarding lives over planned trips to affected communities.
The statement expressed condolences to families who lost loved ones and wished a swift recovery to those injured. Obi emphasized the need for urgent and compassionate action to protect citizens, while reiterating that “A New Nigeria is Possible”.
