Residents of Ayobo and its environs in Ipaja-Ayobo Local Council Development Authority (LCDA) have been subjected to horrific experience while fending for their daily bread as its only route connecting their communities with Igando-Ikotun LCDA remains neglected by authorities concerned.

The alternative route linking Ayobo and its environs to Igando has remained a death trap for both pedestrians and motorist alike applying the route on daily basis owin to its deteriorating condition. Few months back the Alaja road connecting the Olayemi area of Ayobo via Megida bus stop was awarded for construction thereby raising the hopes of its residents of a replica of Aboru bridge in their community which will not only aid their daily movement but will also have an increase on its commerce and development but that was not as the construction was abruptly stopped half way without any genuine reason thereby turning the unconstructed parts of the road into a horrible condition.

The link bridge connecting the communities remains a shadow of death that motorists and pedestrians are left to patronise on their daily routine despite being a toll bridge as one expects to see regular maintenance of the wooden bridge. Our investigation reveals that commercial bus operators plying the route from Ayobo to Odo-Eran bus stop on Igando-LASU expressway pays an average of N1400 per week to have thorough access on the bridge while private cars are billed not less than N200 per access, yet it’s condition remains worrisome as the bridge continues to wear out on daily basis forcing motorists to abandon a lane of the IT which has continually caused avoidable delays tantamount to failure in service delivery.

The communities have continued their appeal to all concerned authorities for respite on the completion of the road with construction of a modern link bridge which will in turn make the route serve as an alternative to the Egbeda-Idimu road to Ayobo communities and its environs.

Efforts to reach the Executive Chairman of Ipaja-Ayobo LCDA on comments was not forthcoming as messages to his Special Adviser on Media was not responded to as at the time of press.
