The Independent Broadcast Association of Nigeria (IBAN) has demanded an apology from Minister Nyesom Wike over his comment about Channels TV journalist Seun Okinbaloye, threatening a media boycott if he fails to comply.

Wike had said during a live interview, “If there was any way to break the screen, I would have shot him,” after Okinbaloye’s analysis of Nigeria’s democracy. IBAN deemed the remark inappropriate and intimidating, warning it could worsen conditions for journalists in Nigeria.

The association has asked Wike to retract his statement and apologize to Okinbaloye and the media community, reaffirming his commitment to press freedom. If not addressed, IBAN may boycott FCT administration media engagements to protect journalists.
