Maiduguri – The Nigerian Army has warned residents of Maiduguri to remain vigilant and avoid crowded places following intelligence reports indicating the possible presence of additional suicide bombers in the city. This comes after multiple suicide bomb explosions rocked Maiduguri on Monday evening, killing at least 23 people and injuring over 100 others.
The attacks, which targeted crowded locations including the Monday Market, the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, and the Post Office Flyover, have been attributed to suspected Boko Haram terrorists. The Nigerian Army’s Media Information Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, described the attacks as cowardly and an attempt to cause panic among residents.
The Borno State Police Command has confirmed the casualties, with Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, stating that preliminary investigations reveal the incidents were carried out by suspected suicide bombers.
Security forces have intensified surveillance, patrols, and counter-improvised explosive device operations across the metropolis to track down any remaining suspects and prevent further attacks. Residents have been urged to remain calm but vigilant and report any suspicious movements or objects to the nearest security agency.
