Former Kano State Governor, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, met with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Lagos, sparking speculation about potential political realignments in Kano State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The closed-door meeting, which took place during Tinubu’s Easter holiday, was not disclosed, but sources suggest it’s part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano ¹ ² ³.
Shekarau’s visit follows a similar meeting with Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, who recently defected from the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) to the APC.
This has fueled speculation about Shekarau’s potential return to the APC, a party he helped found. The APC is reportedly keen on securing Shekarau’s support, given his significant influence in Kano politics.
