In adherence to his unwavering commitment to upholding the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and accountability in the administration of Nigeria’s resources, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced the immediate suspension of the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Betta Edu.

President Tinubu has tasked the Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to launch a comprehensive investigation into all financial transactions associated with the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, along with its affiliated agencies.

As part of the suspension, the President has directed the suspended Minister to hand over her responsibilities to the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation. Furthermore, President Tinubu has emphasized the need for the suspended Minister to fully cooperate with the investigating authorities during the course of their inquiry.

In addition, the President has convened a panel, chaired by the Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance, to conduct a thorough examination of the financial architecture and framework of the social investment programmes. The objective is to implement conclusive reforms aimed at addressing any institutional weaknesses, ensuring the exclusive benefit of disadvantaged households, and restoring public confidence in the initiative.

These directives from President Tinubu are effective immediately, signaling a resolute commitment to accountability and a determined effort to safeguard the interests of the Nigerian people.
