… Alaja Road, Kufo Street and Asipa Road aiding traffic

The growing bottlenecks that embrace motorists and other road users at Megida bus stop area of Ayobo LCDA has been described as the gross failure on implementation of the already mapped out space for garage for commercial buses and the neglects of its adjoining roads ought to serve as alternative routes for motorists emerging outward Alaja Road, Kufo Street and Asipa road.

Megida bus stop in Ipaja-Ayobo has gradually turned into a major transit point; connecting commuters heading inward and outward of Aiyetoro, Isefun, Alaja Road/Olayemi and neighboring satellite towns of Ogun state; but just like other parts of Lagos State, it is gradually manifesting the inherent failures, defects and none compliance of its original structural design from construction which include the total abandonment of existing garage for commercial buses and lack of a model market just like other areas of Lagos.

The increasing numbers of motorists and commuters daily plying this route are currently faced with the huge challenges of maneuvering the Megida point of the road despite the ever presence and efforts of the Traffic Officials from the Ayobo Divisional Police, men of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and usually assisted by officials of Lagos State Neighborhood Safety Corps.

An official of the LATMA who spoke to our correspondent on the condition of anonymity for not being authorized to speak for the traffic agency noted that the challenge the junction is facing include lack of the envisaged population growth and development the axis has attracted in the recent years, while highlighting that there are two lanes emanating from the Aiyetoro/ishefun axis with another two lanes from the Ayobo bus stop end and a lane coming out from Alaja Road. The five lanes are terminating at the same point trying to fuse into just two lanes, out of the two lanes being fused into, the commercial buses and tricycles have taken another lane as their loading bay thereby obstructing the lay-back designed for only quick drop-offs.

In addition the road side traders have equally contributed to the challenge by exhibiting their wears on the walkways meant for pedestrians thereby compelling them to further add pressure on motorists in maneuvering at that point.

In his submissions, he suggested that if the adjoining roads Alaja road, Kufo Street and Ashipa were in good condition or could be fixed it will aid motorist to use them as alternative routes, then the possibility of converting Alaja road outward Megida bus stop as one-way will further ease the pressure and also the need to implement the usage of the space created for garage for the commercial buses enforced, there situation will greatly improve; he concluded.

Our correspondent was however unable to get words from any official of the LCDA before filing this report but a follow up is scheduled in our subsequent edition.
