Party says only NEC can release official outcome; NEC meeting slated for June 3 in Abuja_
The Nigeria Democratic Congress [NDC] has urged members of the public to disregard unofficial results of its nationwide primaries currently trending on social media, saying only the party’s National Executive Council is authorized to announce outcomes.
In a press statement issued by the Office of the National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director Esq, the party said reports circulating on various platforms claiming to be results of the primaries held on May 28 and 29, 2026, are false and misleading.
“The general public is hereby urged to disregard the various results circulating on social media as the outcome of the nationwide primaries conducted by the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC on the 28th and 29th of May, 2026,” the statement read.
According to the NDC, the results of the primaries are currently with the National Executive Council, NEC, which remains the sole body responsible for collating and announcing official results.
To deliberate on the outcome, the party has convened a NEC meeting. The statement said the meeting was called on the order of the National Leader of the party, His Excellency Distinguished Senator Seriake Dickson.
“On the order of the National Leader of our party, His Excellency Distinguished Senator Seriake Dickson, a NEC meeting of the party has been called. Therefore, all members of NEC are to arrive at Abuja for a pre-NEC meeting on Tuesday, 2nd of June while the NEC meeting will be held on Wednesday, 3rd of June, 2026,” Director stated.
The party added that it will make the final list of candidates available to the public and stakeholders only after the NEC concludes its deliberations and transmits the names of successful aspirants to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
“The general public and stakeholders will be availed of the results of our primaries when we send the list of candidates to fly our party’s flag to the INEC,” the statement said.
The NDC primaries held across the country last week were to select candidates for upcoming elections. With several aspirants vying for tickets, social media has been awash with unconfirmed figures and claims of victory from different camps.
Party officials say releasing unofficial results could cause confusion and division within the ranks. The NEC meeting in Abuja is expected to ratify the primaries and present a unified candidate list ahead of submission to INEC.
Until then, the NDC is asking members, supporters, and the media to rely only on official communication channels from the National Secretariat for authentic information.
