The initiative, held on April 25 under the global theme _“Driven to end malaria: Now we can. Now we must,”_ focused on raising awareness and improving access to basic health services for residents within the company’s network.

According to the DisCo, the outreach featured community sensitization sessions where residents were educated on the causes, symptoms, prevention, and early treatment of malaria. Health teams provided practical guidance on the proper use of insecticide-treated mosquito nets, environmental sanitation, and the need to seek prompt medical care at the first sign of infection.

As part of on-the-spot support, participants underwent free malaria testing and received antimalarial medication where necessary. Treated mosquito nets and information materials were also distributed to encourage sustained prevention efforts at the household level.

Speaking on the intervention, Ikeja Electric’s Head of Corporate Communications, Kingsley Okotie, said the company’s responsibility extends beyond power distribution to promoting healthier communities. “At Ikeja Electric, we recognize that our responsibility goes beyond providing electricity. We are committed to supporting the wellbeing of our customers through initiatives that promote healthier communities,” Okotie said. “This World Malaria Day outreach reflects our effort to equip residents with the knowledge and resources needed to prevent and manage malaria effectively.”

He added that sustained awareness and access to preventive tools remain critical to reducing the burden of malaria. “We believe that sustained awareness and access to preventive tools can significantly reduce the impact of malaria in our communities, and we will continue to collaborate with stakeholders to drive positive health outcomes.”

With the rainy season underway, the company also used the occasion to caution customers on electrical safety risks. Okotie noted that heavy rains increase the likelihood of hazards such as exposed wires, flooded installations, and electric shock incidents. He urged residents to avoid contact with electrical infrastructure during rainfall, steer clear of damaged or fallen wires, and ensure that home installations are properly secured and protected from water exposure.

Customers were advised to report safety concerns immediately through Ikeja Electric’s emergency lines: 0909-222-7299 and 0909-222-7799.

Reaffirming the company’s broader mission, Okotie said community engagement, safety advocacy, and sustainable impact remain central to Ikeja Electric’s operations. “Ikeja Electric remains dedicated to delivering value to its customers through reliable power supply, continuous stakeholder engagement, and meaningful CSR interventions that improve quality of life,” he said.

Ikeja Electric is Nigeria’s largest power distribution company, serving millions of customers across Lagos and parts of Ogun State. The company said it will continue to prioritize initiatives that align with public health, safety, and social development.
