Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State provided a comprehensive update on the aftermath of the Bodija explosion that occurred last Tuesday, revealing that 90% of the victims have been discharged from various hospitals. The governor commended the efforts of the medical team from the Emergency Operations Centre, led by the state’s Commissioner for Health, Dr. Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi.

In a statement released on Sunday, Governor Makinde confirmed that the death toll from the incident remains at five. He highlighted the presence of a clinical psychologist at the Emergency Operations Centre in Bodija, Ibadan, offering counseling to the victims affected by the tragic event.

The governor expressed appreciation for the collaborative efforts of security agencies, maintaining law and order around Bodija. He assured the public that investigations into the incident are ongoing, with updates to be made public as soon as they are available.

Governor Makinde also praised the residents of the area for their cooperation with security directives, stating, “Our administration remains committed to supporting all victims of this unfortunate incident and ensuring that everyone responsible is brought to book.”

Providing further details, he disclosed that over 90% of the victims have been discharged from hospitals, marking a significant step in the recovery process. Governor Makinde announced the conclusion of search and rescue operations at the Dejo Oyelese Close site of the explosion, with recovery efforts now underway.

Acknowledging the support received, Governor Makinde expressed gratitude to the Nigerian Society of Engineers, who initiated structural integrity tests on approximately 230 properties near the blast site. The tests include 13 houses within a 50-meter radius, 40 houses at 100 meters, 122 houses at 200 meters, and 53 houses within a 250-meter radius.

In a demonstration of solidarity, the governor thanked Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State for releasing the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) to assist in the recovery efforts. Governor Makinde encouraged the public to contact the Emergency Operations Centre for any issues related to the Bodija incident.

The operations at Ground Zero have transitioned from search and rescue to recovery, signifying a crucial phase in restoring normalcy to the affected area. The governor urged continued cooperation and support from the community as the state works towards comprehensive recovery and resolution.
