The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has congratulated Senator Tony Nwoye following his emergence as Minority Whip of the Senate.

Senator Tony Nwoye

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the party described Nwoye’s elevation as “well-deserved,” noting that it is a testament to the senator’s consistency, courage, and commitment to democratic values.

Senator Nwoye, who represents Anambra North Senatorial District, was unanimously chosen by the Senate minority caucus to fill the position. He was elected to the Senate in 2023 on the platform of the Labour Party okbefore defecting to the ADC in late 2025.

The ADC said Nwoye’s appointment reflects not only his personal capacity and credibility but also the growing confidence in the party as a “principled platform for responsible opposition.”

“We are confident that Senator Nwoye will bring diligence and balance to his new role and contribute meaningfully to the work of the National Assembly,” the party stated.

The party added that Nwoye’s elevation underscores the importance of experience and integrity in legislative leadership, particularly at a time when Nigerians are demanding greater accountability from their representatives.

The ADC expressed optimism that the senator would use his new position to advance issues that promote good governance, strengthen democratic institutions, and protect the interests of Nigerians across party lines.

“Congratulations, Distinguished!” the statement concluded.

Nwoye’s emergence as Minority Whip comes amid a series of realignments in the Senate, with several opposition lawmakers recently defecting to the ruling All Progressives Congress. His appointment is seen as a move to consolidate the minority caucus and provide a steady voice for the opposition in the upper chamber.
