_Club marks Children’s Day with push to “catch them young” for tech-driven future_

The Lady Mechanic Initiative [LMI] has announced a groundbreaking partnership with Bawa Secondary School, Nasarawa State, to launch its After-School Club in the school, a move aimed at equipping young students with technical and digital skills.

The announcement was made in honor of Children’s Day, with LMI describing the collaboration as a step to expand its reach and “catch them young” for a technology-driven world.

*From mechanics to robotics and coding*
While LMI is known for breaking stereotypes by introducing young minds to mechanical and technical engineering, the Bawa Secondary School club will take innovation further. The After-School Club will focus on grooming students, with special emphasis on the girl child, in three core areas:

*Robotics & Automation*: Teaching young girls how to design, build, and program smart systems.
*Coding & Software Development*: Equipping students with computational thinking and digital problem-solving skills early in life.
*Practical STEM Integration*: Transforming abstract classroom theories into hands-on engineering and tech projects.

    *Tackling youth unemployment, digital divide*
LMI said Children’s Day is a reminder that investments in youth today shape the society of tomorrow. By introducing automation and coding, LMI and Bawa Secondary School are working to combat future youth unemployment, close the digital divide, and shatter the misconception that advanced technical skills are out of reach for young learners.

“We are not just teaching kids how to use technology—we are training them to become the innovators, engineers, and tech leaders who will build it,” the organization stated.

The club’s philosophy was captured in its Children’s Day message: “Every child carries the seed of genius. Through the Lady Mechanic After-School Club, we are watering those seeds with robotics, coding, and technical mentorship.”

    *Gratitude to school leadership*
LMI extended gratitude to the leadership of Bawa Secondary School for sharing the vision and committing to the partnership.

“Together, we are building,” LMI said, as it celebrated and honored children with the launch.

The After-School Club model aligns with growing efforts across Nigeria to integrate practical STEM education in secondary schools and increase girls’ participation in tech and engineering fields.
