Alimosho has remained prominent in its role in determining the swing of the political pendulum of Lagos State and to a great extent that of the federation. This is owing to her position as the most populated local government area in Nigeria today with a projected population of over six million residents and a high rate of in flock of people from all nooks and crannies of Nigeria and her neighbouring West African countries.
Without much ado on her population, Alimosho has remained the least developed area of Lagos State. Despite her role in the development of the state with her enormous human capital resources, the LGA has really been malnourished of infrastructural development especially by previous administrations of the State. One must, however, commend the current administration of Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode who has demonstrated his passion towards grassroots development which has seen Alimosho benefiting. Yet like the proverbial saying that to whom much is given much is expected. Alimosho has paid her political dues to both the State and Nigeria at large and therefore just like the state deserves a special status recognition from the federation, Alimosho equally deserves similar status from the state.
With over six million and a larger land mass than most states in Nigeria, Alimsoho currently is represented by only two members at the State House of Assembly and just a representative in the House of Representatives. This obviously represent gross marginalisation and lack of adequate representation. In the current political dispensation, it is worthy to note that the Lagos West Senatorial district which is dominated by her size and population is yet to have a shot at the highest office in the State, the office of the governor.
With the current level of development achieved under Governor Akinwunmi Ambode and her continuous role in electioneering within and outside the state, it is therefore imperative to revisit the Alimosho position in the State of Lagos. Alimsoho has been able to prove her ability towards great leadership as her constituents have performed exceptionally well in their various capacities and therefore it will be worth a shot to have Alimosho produce a governor.
With his exceptional performance, Governor Ambode has justified his second term and even more if permissible by the constitution, of course not. But 2023 will be a year to see to the realization of the Alimosho Project. Therefore it will highly productive to beam the searchlight on another “Ambode” originating from and domiciled in Alimosho as this will greatly bring about the desired balance politically and sustain the developmental foundations being laid by Governor Akinwunmi Ambode.
With over twenty hectares of virgin land in her green-belts, a governor like Ambode emanating from Alimosho and a balanced representation at the state Assembly, the Alimosho Project will be a reality and her role will continually be played without prejudice.
