The Supreme Court of Nigeria has fixed April 22 for the hearing of appeals arising from the leadership crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
A five-member panel of the apex court, led by Justice Mohammed Garba, set the date on Tuesday after granting an application for accelerated hearing of the matter.
The appeals were filed by a PDP faction led by former Minister of Special Duties, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki. The faction is challenging earlier judgments of the Court of Appeal delivered on March 9, which are linked to the party’s protracted leadership tussle.
Tuesday’s proceedings drew the attention of key political stakeholders. Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde was present in court, alongside Turaki and other senior party figures.
The PDP has been grappling with internal divisions over its national leadership, with rival groups laying claim to legitimacy. The outcome of the Supreme Court hearing is expected to have significant implications for the party’s structure and preparations ahead of future elections.
