Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has signed the 2026 Appropriation Bill into law, describing it as a “breath of fresh air” for the state.
The governor performed the signing ceremony on Thursday at the State Executive Council Chambers, Government House, Port Harcourt.
While the total figures and sectoral breakdown of the budget were not immediately disclosed, Governor Fubara said the 2026 budget was designed to consolidate ongoing projects, expand social services, and bring more development to the grassroots.
“This budget is a breath of fresh air,” the governor said. “It reflects our commitment to responsible governance, fiscal discipline, and delivering the dividends of democracy to Rivers people.”
He added that the administration would ensure faithful implementation of the budget to address key areas including infrastructure, health, education, agriculture, and youth empowerment.
The signing of the 2026 Appropriation Bill comes as the state government moves to align its spending priorities with the needs of residents and sustain economic growth across the 23 local government areas.
The governor charged Ministries, Departments and Agencies, MDAs, to ensure transparency and efficiency in the execution of projects captured in the new budget.
With the governor’s assent, the 2026 budget now becomes law and will guide government spending for the fiscal year.
