The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has directed a reduction in the number of tactical teams across police formations nationwide to enhance supervision and address public complaints.
The directive limits tactical teams at Zonal and State Command levels to a maximum of five, and Area Command and Divisional levels to a maximum of three.
The move aims to free up personnel for deployment to police stations and divisions, which have experienced manpower shortages due to the increasing number of tactical teams.
The IGP emphasized that the decision was taken to enhance supervision of existing teams, strengthen Police Divisions, and remove causes of complaints against the Force.
State government-created outfits, such as Lagos’ Rapid Response Squad and Oyo’s SRS, are excluded from the directive.
The police leadership expects this restructuring to improve accountability, reduce complaints against tactical teams, and boost policing at the grassroots level.
