The candidate of African Democratic Congress (ADC) Dr. Paul Moses has warned that attempts to downplay the seriousness of forgery in electoral processes threaten the very foundation of the country’s democracy. The statement, which questions the moral and constitutional implications of forgery, argues that no regulation or law can legitimize a crime or excuse wrongdoing.

Dr. Mo emphasizes that forgery is a deliberate act of deception that corrupts trust, distorts truth, and steals legitimacy, and that no amount of political maneuvering can cleanse it. It cites the Constitution of Nigeria, which requires public office holders to demonstrate integrity, truth, and lawful qualification, and argues that leadership obtained through deception is not legitimate.

The statement laments the prevalence of forgery in Nigerian politics, from local councils like AMAC to state and federal levels, and attributes the country’s leadership crisis to the compromise of qualification processes. He warns that tolerating forgery will erode the country’s legitimacy and betray the Nigerian dream.

He concluded that forgery is a serious offense against truth and public trust, and that any attempts to shield it must be subject to constitutional scrutiny.

He calls for the courts to reaffirm the principle that a crime remains a crime, regardless of who commits it or what office they seek to occupy.
