In a historic milestone, Abaranje Okerube, a community in Ikotun, Lagos State, is on the cusp of a new era in education. The Member, Lagos State House of Assembly representing Alimosho Constituency II, Hon. Kehinde Joseph, is set to commission the first-ever public secondary school in the area, marking a significant fulfillment of a campaign promise made to the community.
The state-of-the-art school, which has reached 90% completion, will provide a much-needed solution to the lack of secondary education infrastructure in Abaranje Okerube, a challenge that has forced parents to send their children to neighboring communities for secondary education since the creation of the LCDA in 1945.
The project, which began in 2025 and is slated for completion in 2026, will accommodate over 720 students and features modern facilities, including classrooms, a computer laboratory, and furniture. The school will serve both junior and senior secondary students, bridging a long-standing educational gap in the area.
The initiative was born out of urgent appeals from Abaranje Community Leaders and parents, who approached Hon. Kehinde Joseph in 2021, highlighting the critical need for secondary education infrastructure in the area. The completion of this project adds to Hon. Kehinde Joseph’s extensive project interventions across Constituency 02, including reconstruction of roads, empowerment, and other projects in Igando Ikotun and Egbe-Idimu LCDAs.
Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has directed the Lagos Ministry of Education to commence the deployment of teaching and non-teaching staff to the new facility, ensuring the school will be fully operational following its official commissioning.
The community has expressed its appreciation to Hon. Kehinde Joseph for this “life-transforming project,” recognizing his commitment to educational development and support for the THEMES Agenda of the Lagos State Government.
Upon commissioning, operational control of the institution will be transferred to the Lagos State Government, ensuring sustainable management and integration into the state’s public education system. This project stands as a testament to Hon. K.J’s dedication to the people of Abaranje Okerube and his constituency.
