Four persons have lost their lives, while five others sustained varying degrees of injury in an accident that occurred on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in the Ogere area of the Remo-North Local Government Area of Ogun State.

The accident, which occurred on Monday at 3:22 pm, involved a Toyota Sienna minibus with registration number KJA738ET and a truck with registration number KMC548YD.

The spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Corps in Ogun State, Florence Okpe, confirmed the incident.

Okpe said the fatal crash occurred at about 3:22pm on Monday as a result of speed.

She said, “A total of nine persons were involved which comprised six male adults, two female adults and one male child.

“Five persons were injured; two male adults, two female adults and a male child.

“Four persons were reported dead from the crash, all male adults.

“Two vehicles were involved with registration number KJA738ET a Toyota SIENNA, and KMC548YD Howo trailer (truck).”

“The suspected cause of the crash was over-speeding, which led to loss of control on the part of the sienna bus which collided with the truck when the truck driver was trying to reverse.

“The injured victims were taken to Victory Hospital Ogere for medical attention while the corpses were deposited at FOS Ipara Morgue.”

The FRSC spokesperson, however, said the Sector Commander has advised motorists “to use common sense speed limit especially this rainy season when visibility is poor”.

She added that her boss further advised that if one could not drive in the rain, one could park in a safe place and wait for safety purpose.

She said, “He also sympathises with the families of the deceased and pray that God should strengthen them for their losses”.
